Big Ideas: PIPSIO - The Order Of Financial Priorities

Big Ideas: PIPSIO - The Order Of Financial Priorities

Today we’re covering the ideal order of financial priorities, something Pete and Rog learned early on in their financial planning training. The order was summarised by the acronym PIPSIO
    Protection
    Income Protection
    Pensions
    Savings
    Investments
    Other

PIPSIO is nothing more than a useful mnemonic, but it really does serve a purpose. I still remind the advisers at Jacksons of it now and again.

    Big Ideas: Prioritising Today

Thanks for keeping me engaged

Hi Pete and Roger, Thanks you both for all the time and effort you put in to making these engaging weekly bromance episodes - oops I mean financial planning episodes. At 52, I only recently admitted to myself that I ought to listen to the little voice saying maybe all those ‘savings’ I had I actually owed HMRC since I’d quit my old job. I was right. Luckily, someone on Facebook recommended the meaningful money podcast and despite the hurdles of inconsistent income (self employed) and outgoings (moving house) I’ve started budgeting myself away from the hole I’m teetering on the edge of. I’ve not reached a proper forward budget yet but I am living within my means just. What helps me immensely is that while I’m working I frequently listen to your playful yet informative and knowledgeable banter about everything from where I am now financially to retiring happy with ISAs and investments to top up my pitiful pension, and it reminds me why I’m not going to stop on the way home and buy a coffee. The blend of welcoming Cornish and proper Yorkshire advice makes me feel I’m part of a team rather than doing this on my own. Thanks so much!

Once found, never forgotten!

Read that as you will Pete and Rog ha ha! Honestly, I found Meaningful Money way too late in life, your honest, open and thoughtful way (even a non-finance person could understand) that you share the information is refreshing. I am within a few years of retirement and fear I can’t make much of a change, but I do share your site and podcast to the much younger work colleagues, so they may stand a fighting chance. As they say, never too old to learn something new, I’m in the retirement academy trying to make up for lost time, although I fear for me it maybe too late. Keep up the fantastic work both!

Thank you Pete and Rog!

Brilliant podcast, Pete and Rog are incredibly knowledgeable and deliver what could be dry content in and entertaining and engaging way. Currently working my way through the back catalogue and have already implemented many changes - striving to be intentional everyday. Pete’s book is also an excellent read. Next step for me will be to join the Academy! Thanks Pete and Rog.
